    Saint Vincent and the Grenadines lies at 13 degrees 15’ North latitude and 60 degrees 56’ West longitude, approximately 1,600 miles southeast of Miami. Saint Vincent, the largest island of this 32 island archipelago has long been a seafarer’s haven.
The Grenadines extend 45 miles to the southwest, like stepping stones: Bequia, Mustique, Canouan, Petit St Vincent, Union, Isle ŕ Quatre, Mayreau, Tobago Cays… Kingstown is the home port.
In accordance with the Shipping Act, 2004, a Commissioner for Maritime Affairs, was appointed by the Cabinet to carry out administrative duties in foreign ports and undertake the general superintendence of all matters relating to merchant shipping and registration of ships through offices in Geneva and Monaco.

Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, member of the IMO, since 1980, is also a member of the Baltic Exchange. Our country ranks among the top 20 leading fleets of the world.

STATUTORY REQUIREMENTS ENTERING INTO FORCE IN JUNE AND JULY 2008 :
- MSC 216(82) Annex 1 will enter into force on 1 July 2008. It amends SOLAS Chapter III, Chapter V, IBC Code & IGC Code.
- Ships built before 1 July 2002 and not engaged on international voyage should be provided with AIS no later than 1 July 2008.
- Amendments to SOLAS Chapter II-2 entering into force on 1 July 2008 are intended to passenger ships built on or after 1 July 2008 and have also retroactive requirements for passenger ships built before 1 July 2008.

Security level raised to 2 for Nigerian Waters. Masters and crew are required to be vigilent while in Nigerian Waters :
This Administration advises the Master/SSO and crew to pay utmost attention and to be vigilant during transit/call at Nigerian waters and ports.

Master/SSO in consultation with CSO shall verify the actual security situation and implement security measures as per SSP which will correspond to the overall security situation.

From September to November 2007, Paris and Tokyo MOU will perform a Concentrated Inspection Campaign focused on the implementation of the ISM. All crewmembers should be familiar with SMS and able to give sufficient evidence to PSC Officers during this campaign.
"Questionnaire CIC on ISM implementation 2007" and "Questionnaire Concerning the Familiarity of GMDSS Equipment and Tests" used by Port State Control officers id published on our WebSite.

Masters should request a copy of the Concentrated Inspection Campaign Report to the PSCO and this Report should be kept on board. The results of this Concentrated Inspection Campaign Report will be reported to the SIRENAC database.

MARPOL Annex VI, Reg.14, requires the sulphur content of any fuel oil used on board shall not exceed 4.5%. In addition, a lower limit is placed in special areas (SECA - SOx Emission Control Areas) where the sulphur content shall not exceed 1.5%.
The Baltic Sea is SECA since 19 May 2006.
The North Sea and the English/French Channel will be SECA from 11 August 2007.
